Please, please don't steal music. You can justify it to yourself any number of ways, but the bottom line is that the artists and the writers don't get paid when you steal their music. Maybe the record companies have grown into large conglomerates that have removed themselves from the artisic side, but if they are gone, distribution changes and the business changes. Help our songwriters before they decide that it just isn't worth writing great music anymore. Don't steal. There are great alternatives to normal CD distribution methods. Check out eMusic. They have the most eclectic (particularly back catalog jazz) library of great music on the web. It works out to about 30 cents a song. Click the green bar above for a free tune every day.
Don't steal.

Haken Audio. Genius, Lippold Haken has developed the coolest new controller I have ever seen! I won't try to describe it. Look for yourself.

Mike McKnight, musician and programmer tosses me work that he is too busy to do. I owe a lot of my touring to Mike's generosity.

Iowa Rock and Roll Music Association. Home of the Hall Of Fame, Lake Okaboji, IA.

SaxSolos.com is - WITHOUT A DOUBT - the best resource for transcribed sax solos. Curtis accurately captures classic solos in jazz, pop and rock genres. A "must see" site for any saxophonist.

Mapquest helps you with directions anywhere. No excuse for being late to a gig now.

Internet cafe worldwide search engine for local sites.

Moon Productions is a ProTools digital facility on the Central Coast of California. I work there a lot and the credits and great gear speak for themselves.

My brother, Jim Lawless is a programmer and Computer Science instructor. He has some commercial applications that he has written and many interesting links.

Coffee!

Coffee and sugar - my last 2 vices. I drink a lot of coffee in a lot of cities.

Here are my favorites:

Peet's Coffee and Tea
The best of the chain coffee houses.

Starbucks Most well known chain in the world. Not always the best - but you know what you are getting every time.

Coffee People Portland metro area. Very good with good cold drinks as well.

Seattle's Best It just might be.

Gloria Jean's If you are caught in a mall, they are usually around the corner.

Caribou Coffee Not enough of these around. A good find if you stumble across one.

Tim Hortons Good coffee on the Canadian side of the US.

Tullys Good coffe and good food.

Dunkin Donuts When all else fails this is consistent coffee anywhere in the world.

Books

Every town has book stores -- well, except in Texas. Every town has used book stores. I prefer used hard backs because they are easier to read in a bunk on a bus. Or there is amazon.com.

I love fiction. I'm currently in my crime/mystery phase. Check out:

Harlan Coben A master of the twist and turn, Excellent writing. One of my top three current authors.

Robert Crais LA detective, Elvis Cole.

John Sandford Spellbinding on the gory side.

Michael Connelly The adventures of Detective Harry Bosch.

Patricia Cornwell Murder from an ME's point of view.

James PattersonWonderful storyteller. Author of the acclaimed Alex Cross mysteries.
